Therapy

What is Sex Therapy?
Sex Therapy is the professional and ethical treatment approach to problems of sexual function and expression. It reflects the recognition that sexuality is of legitimate concern to professionals, and that it is the right of individuals to expert assistance with their sexual difficulties.
Sex therapy, then, is the focusing of specialized clinical skills on helping men and women as individuals and/or as couples to deal more effectively with their sexual expression.
Who Goes to Sex Therapy?
- Adult men and women of all ages
- Those wanting a better understanding and acceptance of their sexuality
- Individuals or couples experiencing difficulty with sexual functioning or sexual relationship issues that can result in their sexual relationship not growing as they would wish.
- Heterosexuals, gay men, lesbians, bisexuals or transgendered persons.
- Individuals or couples who wish to enrich their intimate relationship by learning how to enhance their current means of sexual expression or gain information on the range and components of sexual expression.
- Those with illnesses or disability.
- Those wishing information about sexuality and how to negotiate and talk about sexual likes or dislikes with their partner.
Many people find it difficult to ask for help regarding sexual problems. It is a very personal subject and most people have been socialized to believe they should not discuss sexual matters. The myth that sex should always come naturally is prevalent; however, in reality, sexual problems affect almost everyone at some stage in their lives.
